@Kyeh@rcwbbb Since the Blendtec doesn’t have a sharp blade (it really just beats everything into a liquid) frozen stuff only takes a few seconds longer.
@chienfou@rcwbbb@yakkoTDI Huh! I find that if I eat beans or crucifers regularly, they don’t affect me badly. I guess the system gets used to it. But why bicycling?
@chienfou@Kyeh@rcwbbb Higher cardio exercise burns more calories. Burning things creates exhaust gases.
Eating beans regularly is key. My 3 quart crockpot will regularly have 4 cans of beans in whatever concoction I make in it. Depending on the amount of cycling I am doing that is only 3 or 4 meals.
@chienfou@rcwbbb@yakkoTDI
Oh, got it (about the cycling.) Yeah, one nice thing about beans, too, is you can use them for practically every meal, so having some on hand is a nice convenience. Huevos Rancheros. Bean soup or chili. Beans & rice. Bean dip.
My brother lifts weights and always has a prodigious appetite too.
@chienfou@Kyeh@rcwbbb@yakkoTDI I have to keep an eye on my blood sugars and A1C level and all that. Happily, beans have a very low glycemic response in my tummy. So they’re filling, have lots of fiber, what’s not to love?
@chienfou@Kyeh@rcwbbb@therealjrn The one bean I know to watch out for if you need to watch blood sugars is the pinto bean. Those things are almost as carby as a potato.
Really. Huh, I’ve done extensive real-world testing (sample of one) on myself with different foods and using blood sugar testing at various intervals after a meal. Happily (for me) pinto beans don’t cause a spike in me. I have heard/seen others that don’t have that experience.
One thing that will spike me as much as anything is white rice. That stuff absolutely does a number on me. Of course it has a high glycemic index. Wild rice or brown rice isn’t that bad for me.
I think the fiber content has a lot to do with it.
Not necessarily yak. The glycemic indexes and charts will only take you so far. What matters is how one’s individual body reacts. Label will show carbs and fiber and all that, but every body is different.
I have a stick-like mixer that I have used for at least 70 years since I was a kid which I use rarely to make chocolate milk from Nestle’s powder. We have had an Oster blender for at least 40 years. I can’t say its longevity is due to its quality because we hardly ever use it, although it has been good. We use a Cuisinart for related chores.
I have this Ninja all in one unit. Chops, shreds, change tops and its a blender as well. Hardly ever use it. I have a 15-20 year old immersion blender that I use to make sauces in the pot. Still works well.
Vitamix blender for pestos and sauces mostly. Often used to chop ice but the new fridge can do that job. Summertime we use it occasionally for smoothies.
We’re not big on smoothies; we rather eat the whole fruit!
Daily fiber intake met with a smile!
@jkawaguchi With a Vitamix, blending the fruit allows you to drink the whole fruit (all the fiber you get from eating it). Just sayin’…
With mine, I occasionally make a “super” smoothie (additions of powders, etc.) and get several servings from one batch. I put some aside (for next morning) and add ice to a single serving and blend it. Yum!

Housing fruit away from houseflies
I don’t have one because I wouldn’t use it.
Is a protein shake a smoothie? Because that’s what mine is for.
Turning solids into liquids for chili or SOUP.
Like @yakkoTDI. Soup.
@rcwbbb @yakkoTDI I like using an immersion blender for soup.
@Kyeh @rcwbbb For small amounts the stick blender is what I use. For large amounts (especially stuff like frozen broccoli) the Blendtec gets a call.
@rcwbbb @yakkoTDI Huh! I would never blend the broccoli while it’s frozen!
@Kyeh @rcwbbb Blendtec don’t care about frozen. It will BLEND!!! MUWAHAHAHA!!!
@rcwbbb @yakkoTDI It sounds like you enjoy blending it frozen, to get the most out of your Blendtek.
@Kyeh @rcwbbb Since the Blendtec doesn’t have a sharp blade (it really just beats everything into a liquid) frozen stuff only takes a few seconds longer.
@Kyeh @rcwbbb @yakkoTDI
But I like (recognizable) pieces of broccoli in my soup!
@chienfou @Kyeh @rcwbbb Broccoli rarely goes into SOUP! It mainly goes into chili.
@Kyeh @rcwbbb @yakkoTDI
Trying to hide it in there??
OTOH I LOVE good broccoli cheese soup…
@chienfou @rcwbbb @yakkoTDI Hmm, beans AND cruciferous vegetables … a potentially gusty combination!
@Kyeh @rcwbbb @yakkoTDI We have a VitaMix blender. We mostly use it for making smoothies out of Blendjet blenders.

@chienfou @Kyeh @rcwbbb
Neither the beans nor the broccoli really cause that. Being a cyclist and for some odd reason the spice cumin both can power a large sized brass band.

Anything, except for margaritas because, well, been there done that.
I haven’t had a blender in over a decade and I don’t remember what I used it for.
I have a stick-like mixer that I have used for at least 70 years since I was a kid which I use rarely to make chocolate milk from Nestle’s powder. We have had an Oster blender for at least 40 years. @andyw The old Oster blenders were really reliable so it is probably a combination.
I have this Ninja all in one unit. Chops, shreds, change tops and its a blender as well. Hardly ever use it. I have a 15-20 year old immersion blender that I use to make sauces in the pot. Still works well.

I don’t have a blender.
@kittykat9180 Do you perhaps have a whisk with which to blend your sauces?
@therealjrn I do have some whisks of various sizes. I also have a hand mixer and food processor.
Lately, it gathers dust
